In the Rue Morgue

Poe's Story of the Famous Murders Committed There.

A Wonderful Detective Story

Is it a Prophecy of London's Whitechapel Murders?

"In the Rue Morgue" (The [NY] Sun, October 7, 1888) was originally published as "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" by Edgar Allan Poe in Graham’s Magazine, April 4, 1841,  p. 166-79.

"In the Rue Morgue" features many minor changes and omissions, including additional subheadings and the replacement of the first paragraph with the quotation "What song the Syrens sang, or what name Achilles assumed when he hid himself among women, although puzzling questions, are not beyond all conjecture." -- Sir Thomas Browns.
